The newest member of Desperate Housewives, Drea de Matteo, told TIME magazine that becoming pregnant took away her sexy girl image. “I never knew I was a sexy girl until I was pregnant, until it was all taken away from me,” says Drea. “Now I appreciate everything I had.”

Drea joined the cast of the ABC serial Desperate Housewives shortly after Nicolette Sheridan left the show. According to Drea, it was coincidence, not strategy.

“If they were actually trying to replace her, they would have hired someone 10 years younger and prettier than me,” Drea says. “And I just had a baby, so I’m definitely not filling her hot sexy wardrobe.”

Drea is still trying to shed some of the 75 pounds she gained with her daughter, now 22 months. Drea and fiancé Shooter Jennings named their little girl Alabama Gypsyrose.

Alabama, of course, is a state. Gypsyrose likely pays tribute to Gypsy Rose Lee, famous actress, playwright and stripper. The 1959 musical, Gypsy, was based on Lee’s autobiography. Gypsy is an English name meaning “Wanderer.” The name Rose means “flower.”

Wonder what the future holds for a girl named Alabama Gypsyrose…
