Retired golfer and Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam and husband Mike McGee announced the birth of daughter Ava Madelyn McGee. The 6 pound, 10 ounce baby girl arrived at 3:30 am on September, 1, 2009.

Ava is a medieval name meaning “Refuge in battle.” It is a variant of Avis and Aveline.  Famous Avas include actress Ava Gardner, as well as Heather Locklear and Richie Sambora’s daughter, Ava Elizabeth. The baby’s middle name, Madelyn, is the Spanish variant of the French name Madeleine.

Ava Madelyn and her happy parents live in Orlando, Fla.
