Nicole Richie and Joel Madden welcomed baby number two early Wednesday morning. Son Sparrow James Midnight Madden weighed in at 7 lbs. 14 oz. His big sister Harlow Winter Kate also boasts three names.

Celebrities are notorious for giving their children wild names – and Richie and Madden are obviously no exception. The name Sparrow may seem unique, but folks of Celtic origin have used the name for ages – only their word for “Sparrow” was Galvin.

Other old names meaning “Sparrow” include Gaelbhan (Gaelic) and Kele (Hopi). Giving their son the middle name James will help other identify that the name is in fact that of a male child. Midnight seems appropriate as Sparrow was born in the middle of the night.

Richie, at TV personality, and Madden, a musician, run the Richie Madden Children's Foundation to provide grants to health-care and education nonprofits.
