Did J.K. Rowling add a baby names book to the Harry Potter series?  Unfortunately for both Harry Potter fans and parents to be, there will be no such installment, but who’s to say the book itself will not spark a new trend?

Presszoom.com Global News Service has recently released a report stating that “More than 1400 newborn Queenslanders [Australia] have been named “Harry” since the release of the first book in J.K. Rowling’s internationally acclaimed Harry Potter series a decade ago. Attorney-General Kerry Shine said the Queensland Government’s Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages records births that occur in the State, and according to its records 1409 newborns have been named “Harry” since 1997.”  With such stunning statistics, will Harry make his mark on American babies as well?
So far US baby name statistics don’t show a significant flutter in Harry’s popularity as a baby name.  Although the boy wizard has found a respected place on the bookshelf of so many households, Harry’s peers in the business may be having a greater success at influencing  baby name trends.  Giants such as The Lord of the Rings have brought new life to the fantasy genre, taking over the film and book markets and bringing a fantastical air to many aspects of our culture, including baby names.

Tolkien was an academic linguist, and used various classic northern European texts for inspiration. This may explain the sudden popularity of Irish and northern European names such as Aiden, Braden, Gavin, and Lucas.  Not to mention the baby name Elijah, owned by the hobbit actor himself.

While Harry may not rise above the ranks of the American baby Aidan’s and Braden’s, his friends may have a chance at making their mark.  Below are some of the more prominent Harry Potter characters, along with a “unique” twist for inspiration.

Severus Snape
Boy Name:  Everus
Girl Name: Everie

Ginevra Molly

i think the names from the books are mostly nice! a lot of them are odd, but I still stand with my decision that when I get pregnant, if it is a son, I will name him Sirius and if it is a daughter, her name will be Andromeda. My husband even agrees!

I'm not sure about this but I think Sirius, spelt Cirius for a girl would be nice or maybe I will just keep Sirius for a boy because it isnt a very common name. I would not make thier middle name Lee because that would just be cruel.
I totally would

Some of those names are rooted in mythology and history. They have alot of meaning behind them. I'm all about giving kids strong names. Its just a plus they come from my favorite books, too.
