Poor Weight Gain Excessive weight gain can be defined as when you gain less than 2 pounds a month. • Again, assess your weight gain. Have you eaten well or have things been normal but no matter what you eat, you just can't get "big"? • Your doctor will examine changes in edema. There might be a case where you suffered from edema, but it subsided, shedding those extra pounds? • Try to remember if you have been sick a lot, suffered from diarrhea, experienced extreme cases of heartburn or had any illnesses. • Drinking too much fluid can decrease your appetite, causing satiety, a state which your body has excess and can no longer intake food. If that is the case, your doctor will probably suggest changing the fluids you're drinking with different ones such as milk and sugarless fruit juices. However, in most cases of poor weight gain, it is just a matter of skipped meals, weather from fear of excess weight gain, emotional and hormonal changes.
