Page 7 of 7 Here are some important questions you should ask regarding the repayment plan your provider has designed for you: How does your debt repayment plan work? Is a debt repayment plan my only option? How will I know my creditors have received payments? Is client money put in a separate account from operating funds? How often can I get status reports on my accounts? Can I get access to my accounts online or by phone? What if I can’t maintain the agreed-upon plan? What debts will be excluded from the debt repayment plan? Will you help me plan for payment of these debts? Can you get my creditors to lower or eliminate interest and finance charges or waive late fees? Who will help me if I have problems with my accounts or creditors? Such questions will give you better understanding of the debt repayment plan you are offered. Understanding financial matters may help you avoid the need for credit counseling in the future, and clarify the terms of the repayment plan you are taking on. Dealing with your debts will allow you to repay them, while ignoring the situation will just make things worse. Ask for the help you need and insist upon understanding what the debt repayment plan entails. Once you regain control over your financial situation, you might have the money to start planning for your child's future.
