A critical time in the baby’s development.

Your Baby

This is a very critical time in the baby’s growth.  The brain and intestines grow.  At this stage the intestines are outside the baby’s body and inside the umbilical chord! They will move into the body around the eighth week.  The arms and legs continue to mature and the lenses of the eyes are formed.  The pancreas is now able to process digestive enzymes.

Changes in your Body

You may have slightly gained or lost weight at this point.  Hormonal changes in the body affect appetite and your morning sickness plays a role in the weight change as well.  If you did not experience a change in weight, this is normal as well.  For a Dietary Guide and more information visit  Weight Gain During Pregnancy

Contact your caregiver immediately if you experience bleeding, cramping or a discharge that is gray or pink in color.  If you do experience any of these symptoms, do not panic.  Many women experience bleeding during pregnancy and end up having healthy babies.

6 weeks and four days with cramping and pressure
written by Tiffany C., December 01, 2008
This is my third pregnancy and it's nothing like the others. I have been cramping and full of pressure. I'm bleeding a bit also. I went to the ER yesterday and they said I could be threatening a miscarriage. The babies heart beat was heard but it's possible it's to early to really hear a strong one. I have two boys already and hoping this is a girl. I'm really nervous about this pregnancy. Can anyone give me any insight?

i found out when i was 4 weeks and 5 days which wasnt but only 4 days ago and i am cramping alot and waking up in the middle of the night with morning sickness i have learned that i can't eat anything with ketchup on it or anything spicey my favorite foods at this time are ranch chip dip without the chips lol and i love to eat lemon icebox pie. the cramping feels like a period cramp kind of other then its not on just that one side it switches from that one side all the way down and it isn't as strong as my period cramps even though i am only 16 i am happy to be becoming a mother and congrats to everyone else who is having a baby

Funny how this is my first pregnancy and I've crammed my head with all sorts of info... First off Spicy and Fatty food is a big no no stick to foods with less acid, and before you even get up in the morning munch some crackers, they are a girls best friend... Keep some by your bedside and next to you all the time they will help cut the heartburn and the nausea
all day sickness

Wow!! This is my third pregnancy. My daughter is 10 and my son just turned 19 this week. This was a shock to me as well as my boyfriend. This pregnancy is starting out different already. I'm sick all day everyday, my appetite sucks, no cravings, and there are really no foods or drinks that I have a taste for. I can't drink any kind of juices so I drink plenty of water. My kids are very excited about the baby. I am truly starting all over again!

6 weeks
written by Megan Vincent, November 28, 2009
Hi everyone I found out about a week and 1/2 ago that I am 6 weeks pregnant. This will be my 4th pregnancy 2nd child. My husband & I lost two - one before my daughter and one about three months ago. My daughter is almost 2 now. The symptoms with this pregnancy have been so different than with my daughter. With her I vomited all day long all 9 months but that was really the only symptom I had. Other than frequent urination at the end. With this one I am nauseated but no vomiting, I have had pretty harsh cramps in my lower abdomen ( relate to pms cramps X 5) Extreme headaches, My breast are really tender and itch like crazy, and I am so tired that 5 naps a day would not be enought although I getting aprox. 8 - 8 1/2 hours of sleep a night. I hope this means I am having a little boy lol! It only makes sense to being having a boy - because a girl would not give anyone this much hE** lol Like father like son. Haha I am JK but anyways we are very excited to be pregnant again and cant wait to see what the future holds :) Best wishes to everyone else
