Bloating

Bloating can manifest itself in various ways: passing gas, heartburn, stomachaches and other unpleasant symptoms.

Bloating is caused by hormonal changes that reduce your regular metabolism flow, which in turn causes gas to build up in your abdomen. Metabolism slows down so that your digestive system can absorb as many of the nutrients as possible. Excessive gas is a common discomfort for pregnant women. What can you do about it?

• Drink plenty of water during the day (at least eight glasses) to help your digestive system and avoid constipation

• Eat smaller meals. You can eat as often as you need, but keep the meals small so that your stomach will not “overload.” Take your time. Inhaling your food will surely cause gas.

• Practice breathing exercises. This will calm your body and let your digestive system work more freely.

• Avoid foods that are known for their “gassy” qualities: fried food (french  fries, potato chips, fried chicken), spicy food, cabbage and beans.

Small meals
written by Teresa Orduno, January 12, 2009
How much is a small meal? Theoretically how many cups should I be eating in one sitting? Because I get really bloated at night and nauseous at the same time so it is really uncomfortable but during the day I am so hungry!
