A common symptom that starts from the first stages of your pregnancy is feeling light headed, dizzy and faint. Fatigue is one of the most common symptoms experienced during pregnancy, and one that pregnant women attest to feeling most.

Fatigue and dizziness may be a sign of anemia, a deficiency of hemoglobin in the blood.  While a lower hemoglobin is expected during pregnancy, hemoglobin that is too low can leave you with little energy for your daily routine.  Eating a diet full of foods that are rich in iron is very important for keeping your energy levels high.  Drinking plenty of fluids (mainly water) is helpful as well, as a well-hydrated body is an important factor for physical well being and energy.

Remember to maintain your blood sugar level. It is recommended to have a blood test in the first or second month to make sure you are not anemic and that you do not have any vitamin insufficiency. Even though occasional, slight dizziness is normal, if you faint or feel disoriented (blurriness, shortness of breath, numbness in your face) call you doctor immediately. If you feel a spell coming on, lie down, drink water and close your eyes.

• Avoid getting up suddenly, especially when getting up from the bed.  Get up slowly and in stages.

• Eat several small meals all throughout the day.  Foods high in protein are recommended.

• Drink, Drink, Drink!!!

• Wear loose clothes. Avoid stretchy sweaters. Feeling comfortable is more important that feeling sexy.

• Keep cool. Dress lightly and avoid overheating.

• If you are anemic or suffer from a vitamin deficiency, contact your doctor to find out about nutrition supplements.
