Ninety percent of women get stretch marks at some point in their pregnancy.  Stretch marks usually appear as streaks that are reddish-purple at first and later fade into a white transparent color.

Stretch MarksStretch marks can appear anywhere on the body, but are common in places where larger amounts of fat are stored:  the abdomen, arms, thighs, hips, breasts and buttocks.

Stretch marks occur in the layer of skin called the dermis, which helps the skin retain its shape.  Stretch marks can be caused by your genetic structure; if your mother had it, it is likely you will to.

To keep your marks to a minimum there are three things you can do.

1. Maintain your weight gain; put on the pounds slowly and not in bulks.

2. Secondly, you can use moisturizers to alleviate itchiness and swelling.

3. Thirdly, consult a dermatologist - with today’s technology this condition can be drastically improved.
