Here are a few options for physical activities you might enjoy during your pregnancy.

StretchingAs always, you should check with your physician or midwife before attempting a fitness program. Each woman has her own limitations and past experience which will affect her practitioner's advice.

However, if you get the OK to work out, here are a few suggestions.

Experts recommend you should exercise at least three times a week for approximately 20 minutes each time. Remember you should gradually buildup your exercise routine, slowly increasing the effort and length of the exercise.  So don't think that going for a jog once a month will do the trick!

Walking, swimming, riding a stationary bicycle and joining a prenatal aerobics class, are all excellent choices for pregnant women. Prenatal yoga is another wonderful option that is gaining increasing popularity.

Wear a supportive bra and properly fitting athletic shoes while exercising, so sensitivity of breasts won't bother you and swollen feet feel are as comfortable as possible.

It is of the utmost importance that you acknowledge your new condition and are sensitive to your body's needs and limits. Accept the facts that there are another little person's needs which affect your body's abilities and performance. Work with your body, not against it.  If you are out of breath, take a break.  When you are thirsty stop exercising and have a drink of water.
