Needing medical care

Some women might find it disquieting to be away from their healthcare provider during pregnancy, in unknown medical territory.  But most chances are that everything will be just fine.  Just in case, here is a list of signs that do demand immediate medical attention, no matter where you are:
Bleeding
Abdominal pain or cramps
Contractions (remember though that you may also have those false alarm Braxton Hicks contractions)
Leg swelling and pain (may be a sign for deep vein thrombosis)
Headaches
Visual problems

If any of these symptoms occur, or any other worrying physical phenomena, don't hesitate to ask for local medical care.  Before you set out on vacation, you can ask your doctor what would be the best health option if it's needed, so you will already know who to turn to.  It's no time to be shy, if you need medical advice just set out and get it.  Your peace of mind is also something to care for, and if you know nothing is wrong you will regain it and be able to go on and enjoy your vacation.

It's always good to be kind to yourself, pregnant or not.  But when you are pregnant, taking good care of yourself is basically taking good care of your unborn baby.  Use these tips to make your traveling comfortable, fun and healthy.

Traveling by car

· Break car journeys every two hours and take a short walk
· Make sure your seat belt fits properly; the top strap should go between your breasts and the lower strap under your bump
· You may need a cushion for the small of your back for extra support while driving · Place your seat as far back as you can comfortably while driving
· If sitting in the passenger seat, move the seat as far back as possible
· Wear loose, comfortable clothes and flat shoes to drive in
· Pace yourself; if you find you are tired or the traffic is terrible, take an extra stop and have something to eat and drink
