Frequent flyers Fear of flights So if you are having a normal risk free pregnancy, air travel shouldn't be a problem for you. Enjoy some sea, sun and relaxation before the arrival of your little one! If you decide to take that vacation before your baby is born and you're going on a plane to reach your destination, there are a number of things you should think about so your journey is comfortable. So here are some tips on how to enjoy your flight when you're pregnant! (Or at least how not to suffer if flying isn't your thing…) Choose the second trimester to go on vacation Many healthcare providers will suggest that you fly during your second trimester. This is the best time, because it's after the risk of miscarriage during the first trimester and before the risk of early labor in the third trimester. Since the second trimester is the time in which you are feeling your best - over morning sickness and before belly bulging, it should be the perfect time to take your vacation! Taking along your medical forms Once you book that flight, don't forget to ask for the airline's policy regarding pregnancy and flying. It's very important that you don't forget to bring along medical forms specifying your due date. Can you imagine arriving at the airport with your luggage packed and an expecting smile on your face, only to be sent back home because you don't have your medical record?! On most airlines, domestic travel is permitted until the 36th week of gestation, and international travel until 32–35 weeks. What to do once you are on the plane Where to sit - Once you are allowed on the plain, make sure you ask for a aisle seat so you have plenty of room for your legs, and you are able to comfortably get up for a stretch (you should do that every half hour!). But if motion sickness or a bumpy ride is what you are worried about, ask for a seat in the middle of the plain for the smoothest flying experience. Seat belt issues - You should fasten the seat belt only make sure it's not over your belly but rather over your pelvis. The importance of water - Drink plenty of water or other fluid to avoid dehydration, even if it means you will have to squeeze yourself into the tiny restroom more frequently. Keeping to these guidelines will help you avoid any discomfort or problem, never mind heartbreak in the case of bringing along medical forms! Take extra care of yourself so you reach your destination ready for that vacation. More From SheKnows ExplorerComments (0)
