When you just have your new baby it suddenly dawns on you that every outing is like a traveling expedition to far away places.  The list of essentials, you "simply can’t do with out", is enough to make you decide to delay going out until your baby is at least 5!

Going out is very refreshing and important for you and your baby, both physically and mentally.  There are some tips that might help you get over the initial jitters and allow better preparation, which might help you avoid a few unnecessary crying, whining or screaming sessions…

Baby gear
Prepare the carrier or stroller that you’re going to carry your baby in, and make sure you know how to work it.  Whether it’s a stroller you should know how to handle or a baby sling you need to learn how to tie (and some are really not that easy!).  Your little one might not be very patient and understanding while you take your time reading instructions, just before going out.

Essentials
Since forgetting an item at home can bring to catastrophe sometimes (wait till your baby grows up and her favorite doll is left behind!), it’s good to know you have everything in place. So prepare a baby bag stacked up with everything you might need:
Diapers
Wipes
Ointment
Pacifier
Changing pad
A change of clothing
Burping cloth
Soft blanket
(Add anything you might find useful to your list of essentials.)

Don’t forget to take your own essentials, like a bottle of water, a snack, a book or crossword puzzle (for baby naps).  Some women feel as though they are going to die of thirst the minute they start breastfeeding - so make sure you have something to quench your thirst with.
