Once you get on the plane there are a few things you should know to make the plane journey pleasant and easy:

Popping ears
To help your baby avoid the pain he might experience when taking-off, descending or landing, feed him or offer a pacifier.  The process of sucking, either by breastfeeding, bottle or pacifier, helps release the pressure from your baby's ears.  You can also bring a bottle with water for your baby, it sometimes does wonders.

Changing
In most planes there are changing tables in the restrooms, so that is one option. But since these restrooms are so small and cramped, changing a dirty diaper may seem like mission impossible.  If it's just a pee, you could simply change her on the seat.  If it's more than that, your fellow passengers might be a little less baby-friendly if you change her on the seat…

Fluids

If your baby is big enough for anything except breast milk, make sure she drinks plenty.  If she is still breastfeeding, try to make sure you breastfeed her as much as she needs.  The air in the plane is very dry, so both you and your baby are advised to take in plenty of fluids.

Where to sit
As in pregnancy, asking for an aisle seat will give you more room, and an easy way out and in to your seat.  But if you choose a seat in the middle of the lane, you will probably have a smoother ride.  Some parents find that the vibration of the engine helps their baby sleep, in which case you should choose the front or rear of the plane.
Choose the seat that suites you and your baby best.  If you know you will probably be walking around or frequently visiting the toilet, you won't really enjoy the smoothness of the ride in the middle of the plane, while you struggle to get out and in to your seat.

Car seat
Many parents find it reassuring and comfortable to bring along the baby's car seat.  This means that you will have to ensure a place for your child to put the car seat in.  Ask in advance what the width of the seat is to make sure your car seat will fit into it.  It can be very annoying to drag your car seat along only to discover it won't fit in the seat!

Bassinet
Many American airlines don’t' have them, but other airlines usually do.  Make sure to ask about the option of a bassinet, it could make a world of difference to the flight.  It means your baby will have a comfortable area to sleep, play and move around in.

Traveling alone
It is definitely more difficult to travel alone, but it isn't impossible.  When on a plane, it should be quite safe to take on any help offers you receive from fellow passengers.  It's also the time to be bold and ask for help when you need it.  Having someone watch your baby while you go to the restroom comfortably and freshen up a bit is a life saver.

Prepare yourself for the limitations, but adjust to your baby's unique needs and tendencies.  Remember to enjoy yourself, after all, this is mostly what your trip is about.
