Considering working from home?  Find out how to prepare the ground for your brilliant idea and balance the demands of family and work.

Prepare the ground for your brilliant idea

Research – browse the web for ideas and see how others are doing it
Reading material – visit your local library for guides on starting a small business and working from home and get more material on your specific field
Sharing the effort – find a partner to make things easy and have someone to consult.
Thinking out day-to-day life – try to think ahead of how your day-to-day life will be once you begin and decide on important matters such as what childcare to get and how to arrange your daily routine

Managing Home and Family Demands

Just say No – In order to get your work done and your schedule manageable, you must try to stick to your working schedule.  Specify what you do when (house chores, time with kids, shopping, cleaning etc.), and use the flexibility working from home gives you.  You can concentrate errands and shopping and meet up with a friend for lunch, and to compensate for the lost hours, spend a couple of extra hours after the kids go to sleep.

Designing your peace of mind: a Mom working at Home

Where to set up the office:

The bedroom – find ways to differentiate working hours from resting hours.  Some people need a separate space for work and rest to to help clear the mind – keep this in mind when considering the bedroom as a workplace.

The basement or attic – rearrange the space so that your working items won't get ruined from heat, humidity or too much dust.

When to work – choosing the right working hours is important.  Find a balance between the hours you have the most peace and quite and those in which you are most efficient.

Experiment –motherhood may change your habits. It might be a good idea to sometimes work at night time, but if you can't concentrate and keep nodding off, it is counter-effective.
