Face it…almost every kid has lost himself or herself in a comic book. Or, at least took a break for a little laugh over the comic strips as an adult. For parents who used to (or still do) love the laughs and adventures these illustrated playmates gave each of us, taking a moment to browse the names of comic book and comic strip characters may just spark some memories…and inspire a comic book baby name or two for your future comic lover.

superhero manParenthood has its ups and downs, but it is your job as a parent to remember what it was like to be your child’s age, and that includes having a little fun. Why not let that fun spill over into choosing the perfect baby name? Check out our list of the top comic book baby names.

Peanuts Baby Names

Most parents-to-be have at least one memory of good ol’ Chuck and his pals. And, with annual winter runs of A Charlie Brown Christmas, it will be easy to introduce your child to his or her namesake. Names like Charlie, Shermy, Violet, Patty, Schroeder, Lucy, Linus, Franklin, José, Marcie, Eudora, Sally, and Peggy Jean may fit the likes of your little peanut. The name Snoopy might be better reserved for the family pooch, though.

Mickey and Friends Baby Names

Mickey Mouse has come a long way since Steamboat Willie, but the names from the famous mouse and his crew may make a cheery edition to your expanding family. Add names like Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Donald, Louie, Huey, Dewey, Ludwig, Chip, Dale, Pete, Willie, Clarabelle, Butch, Figaro, Humphrey, and Mortimer into the baby name hat for a fun, and harmless, way to honor Walt himself.

Archie Baby Names

Looking toward the future? If you are already envisioning Junior’s teenage years, you may want to draw inspiration from Archie Andrews and friends. Options for names from this comic crew include Archie, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, and Forsythe, better known as "Jughead." However, you might want to leave the name Jughead off his birth certificate.

The Simpsons Baby Names

All-American family the Simpsons would surely be honored if proud parents, and fans of the show, chose names such as Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, Ned, Maude, Rod, Todd, Jacqueline, Patty, Selma, Kent, Charles Montgomery, Carl, Lenny, Bob, Barney, Jimbo, Jacques, Edna, Krusty (not recommended), Troy, Marvin, Nelson, Murphy, Ralph, Joe, Nick, Sherri, Terri, Mel, Mona, Agnes, Seymore, Waylon, Moe, Milhouse, or Willie for their pea in the pod. Looking for a less obvious way to tip a hat to the show? You may want to consider opting for the moniker of Springfield’s founder: Jebediah.

Comic Book Heroes Baby Names

Every parent is a super hero to their child. So, to help encourage your child to be the champion you know he or she can be, using these comic book heroes’ civilian could cultivate your offspring’s desire to help those in need:

Bruce or Wayne (Batman), Clark or Kent (Superman), Peter, Benjamin, or Parker (Spiderman), Steve or Roger(s) (Captain America), Tony (Iron Man), Dick (Robin and then later Nightwing), James (Wolverine), Ben (Thing), Johnny (Human Torch), Thor (Thor), Reed or Richard(s) (Mr. Fantatic), Robert or Bruce (Hulk), Scott (Cyclops), Hank (Beast), Jay (Flash), Jimmy, James, or Bartholomew (Mr. Action), Joe (Judge Dredd), Oliver (Green Arrow), Nicholas, Joseph, or Nick (Nick Fury), Robert or Drake (Iceman), Hal or Jordan (Green Lantern), or Matt (Daredevil).

Men are not the only ones who have super hero secret identities. Fearless female names include Sue (Invisible Woman), Ororo (Storm),  Jean Grey (Jean Grey), Wanda (Scarlet Witch), Kara (Supergirl), Imra (Saturn Girl), Koriand'r or Kori (Starfire), and Emma (Emma Frost).

Wherever your comic book muse may originate from, remember to sandbox test it first. If it begs for kids to tease your tiny tot, it may not be worth the trouble it will cause him or her. If it passes, have fun and let them know where their name came from!
