When it comes to boys, the southern states have a lot of love for Jackson, Noah and Jayden, none of which made the top 10 nationwide in 2008, according to the Social Security Administration.
The top 10 baby names nationwide do appear often on the list of southern baby names, however. Ethan and William are on the top 10 list of boys’ names for every state except Florida, with William often coming in at number one. Joshua and Christopher follow suit, making the top 10 list for every southern state except Missouri. Supporting the trend of being the number one boy’s name nationwide, Jacob makes every southern state’s list as well.
A few unexpected names ranked on the boy names of the south, including Landon, Elijah and Chase. A sign of nationwide trends to come? Possibly.

Southern Baby Girl Names
On the ladies’ side, there are some similar trends. Also mirroring the top 10 girls’ names across the United States, every southern state’s list of popular names includes the trendy Emma, Madison and Ava. Isabella made the top 10 in every state but Mississippi while Emily appeared everywhere but Mississippi and Tennessee. Chloe appeared often, as did Olivia, Abigail, Addison and Elizabeth.
Some surprising names that made the southern states’ top 10 for girls include Brooklyn, Hannah, Brianna, Alyssa, Anna and Makayla.
