Like other baby name trends, those dealing with a starting letter do tend to come and go. Boy "J" names are a little more popular right now than girl "J" names, but there are many trendy choices for parents who are looking for a boy's name. Some "J" names even retained their popularity through the decades, and even more are wonderful choices if you're looking for a more unique name. Read on for the Top 50 "J" names for baby boys and baby girls.
Celebrity "J" Baby NamesSome "J" names are a little more trendy right now, and this is in part to celebrity usage. Britney Spears named her second son Jayden James, and the -aden suffix is extremely popular right now. The name can also be spelled Jaden, which is how Will Smith spelled his son's name. His wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, has a wonderful J name of her own and it has become quite popular over the last few years (it was #110 on the Social Security Administration's list of the most popular baby names in 2008). Other celebrity "J" names: Joaquin (Phoenix), Joss (Stone), Justin (Timberlake), Jared (Leto), Jessica (Alba, Simpson, Biel), Josh (Hartnett, Jackson) and Jenna (Elfman). The Duggar Family Tradition: "J" Baby NamesMany traditional J names are also ones whose popularity doesn't dim over the years. There are still many babies being named John, Jacob, Julia and Jane. One famous family has made J names not only a trend but a serious commitment. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have 18 children (and one on the way) and every one has a name that starts with J. The boys are: Joshua, John-David, Joseph, Josiah, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin and Jackson. The girls are: Jana, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joy-Anna, Johannah, Jennifer and Jordyn-Grace. They even continued the J name tradition with the family pet, a German Shepherd named Jazmine. You can see that they use traditional names as well as more unique names with different spellings. Joshua, the oldest, just had a daughter with his wife Anna, and they did not choose a J name -- instead, they gave their daughter the name Mackynzie. From the first part of the 20th century, there were many girls with names like Janet, Judith, Joyce and Joan. The trend continued but turned slightly in the 70s and 80s in favor of girl names such as Jennifer, Julie, Jessica, Jamie and Jill. While some of these names do sound a little dated, some older-sounding names are coming back into naming fashion (such as Jane and June).
