The newest baby-name trendsetters are two famous families -- the Duggars and the Kardashians. You might wonder, "What do these two families have in common?" The most obvious connection between the two families is how they've used the same name theme -- the names of the kids in the family all start with the same letter! We'll let you in on some tips on how to implement this name theme in your own family.

Brothers and sistersThe larger of the two families is the Duggars who have a reality television program and are well known nationswide. They currently have 19 children and each child the proud owner of a J name. The Duggar boys are named are Joshua, John-David, Joseph, Josiah, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin and Jackson, and the Duggar girls are named Jana, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joy-Anna, Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn-Grace and newest family member Josie.

The Kardashian family's letter is K. They also are stars of reality TV! Mom's name is Kristen (she goes by Kris) and her children are Kourtney, Kimberly, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie. Son Robert is the only non-K -- he was named after his father, Robert Kardashian.

Choosing a Letter

You may or may not be planning a large family, and you also may not start out thinking that you will name all of your children names that begin with the same letter. You may be inspired to do so after your first child is born and you've thought ahead to your future children.

Often the name theme begins with the name of one or both parents. This is the case with both of our famous families above -- the Kardashians of course began with mom Kris, and the Duggars begin with dad Jim Bob. If you or your partner's name starts with a letter you'd like to use, that is the perfect starting place. Even easier would be if you both started with the same letter. You could, of course, choose to start fresh with an entirely new letter, particularly if you've already fallen in love with at least one name or there aren't really many names that appeal to you based on your own names.

You might consider that some name sets have names that might appeal more to you than others. The following letters seem to have more traditional names than others -- S, M, D, C and B. They seem to have a large selection of some of the more common names and plenty of unique and less popular ones if you're seeking names with a different flair.  Check out our Advanced Baby Name Search to search for a name by starting letter.

Making the Theme Your Own

You might notice that both the Duggars and the Kardashians used some creativity for some of their children's names. Jinger is pronounced like the more commonly-spelled Ginger, but they altered it to fit in with her siblings' names. The Karsashians did the same with daughter Khloe's name -- it is more traditionally spelled Chloe. Names that start with J and G can be made to be almost interchangable as well as names that start with C and K. Other combos that can sometimes lend itself to spelling changes are C and S as well as X and Z. Another tip that you can use from the Duggar family is using two names together and joining them with a hyphen. This might be an option if you have a second name that once upon a time you had considered using as a first name but aren't interested in relegating it to middle-name status.

Have fun planning out your family's names in this way. Even if you're only planning to have two or three children (and not 19!) you will still want to put a lot of thought into the letter you choose so that you're happy with the selection of names to choose from when the time comes for your second or third child!
