Pennsylvania's top baby names in 2009 were Michael for boys and Isabella for girls. There were plenty of traditional, classic and trendy names to go around in addition to these popular names. How did the Keystone state compare to national ranks? Read on to find out!

Chase, Jayden and Aiden all ranked in the top 25 in Pennsylvania. These trendy boy names came in at 8, 19 and 10 respectively. For girls, Isabella is one of the trendiest names not only in Pennsylvania, but in the US as a whole. The rise in popularity cannot totally be ascribed to the Twilight saga as its ascent began a good 10 years ago, but the mass appeal of the vampire books and films cannot be discredited! Other trendy girl names in Pennsylvania that came in near the top of the chart are Madison, Chloe and Riley.

Classic Baby Names

Old is new again as far as baby names go. Names that were popular when our great-grandparents were babies are fashionable once and a new generation of children with time-honored, dignified names has cropped up. For boys, names like Joseph, Noah, William, John and James were highly favored in Pennsylvania. Classic girl names like Grace, Ella, Emma and Lily ranked at the top of the chart as well.

Traditional names, or names that have been popular for decades and show no signs of letting up, were also tops with parents in Pennsylvania in 2009. In fact, one of the steadiest names in terms of popularity, Michael, came in at the top spot for boys. It is followed by other traditional names such as Matthew, Ryan, Alexander, Anthony and Daniel. For girls, traditional names like Emily, Elizabeth, Anna and Sarah ranked near the top of the chart.
