Many baby name trends came into vogue in 2009 -- from celebrity baby names to unisex names, traditional baby names and an emergence of baby names starting or ending with certain sounds, check out the top baby names for girls and boys. Social Security List of Top Baby NamesThe newly released of top baby names for 2009 showed the influence of the popular Twilight books. Isabella took the top spot from Emma for girls names, while Jacob remained in the number one spot for boys.

Jackson was up there also, as well as Owen, Evan, Noah and Zachary. Popular girl names from 2009 are Madison, Madeline, Hannah, Emma and Olivia. It was a nice blend of traditional names coupled with trendy names. Unisex Baby NamesNames that could be used by boys as well as girls also enjoyed increasing popularity. Some of the more popular unisex names used by parents are Alex, Avery, Dakota, Drew, Emerson, Hadley, Jordan, London, Morgan, Quinn, Ryan, Sage and Zane. Many names that were previously considered boy names have made a slow transition to being known as girl names -- good examples are Leslie and Ashley. Traditional Baby NamesOne other trend sees parents who are steering towards old-fashioned, traditional baby names -- names that your great-great-grandmother may have considered during her pregnancy. Grace, for example, is tearing up the popularity charts and has been on the top of parents' lists everywhere for decades. Other popular classic names for girls: Claire, Jane, Rose, Ruby, Violet and Amelia. Classic names for boys are also coming back into vogue, with names like Emory, Harry, Henry, Jack, Oliver and Grant being bestowed upon baby boys everywhere. I like the name Athena Grace, Makenzi Monroe, Olivia Bly...girl or guy, Mariah Nicole, Miah/Mia/Maya Jaye (The girl version of JAY, Jesse Elijah... and if the last name starts with 'M' his nickname could be JEM, Matthew Jayden, Cooper Bly, Sparrow Hayes

I'm a teacher and I deal with a lot of names.I can make a suggestion on your spelling dilema. If you want your little girls name to be pronounced correctly, spell it Miriam. If you want her to get the attention of correcting people when they call her MI-riam, (long i) then spell it Myriam.
