My mother's name is Ella Marguerite. My 90 year old grandmother's name is Ella Margaret. My grandmother was named after her aunt Ella Mae. The name can be traced back a couple hundred years in my family tree on both the German side and the Irish side so I'm not exactly sure where this name originates from. When my I was a kid my grandfather would say El and we'd all turn around so he started calling my gmom Big El, called my mom Little El and called me Baby El. It stuck til I was about 20. My only daughter's name is Stephanie Lynn. My grandmother kind of understood me not wanting to name her Ella at the time though I kind of regret it now and am hoping that one of my kids at least pass it down as a middle name.
