It may not be so strange now, but when I started school in 1983 it was pretty rough. I am all for different and unique names, but remember that your child will have to deal with YOUR decision for the rest of their life. Kids can be cruel and it can be damaging to a child of they aren't able to withstand the comments. I even had parents of friends negatively comment on my name when I was growing up! It can be positive too, though. People always remember me, even if it is by Summer or Cesar or Susan or just "the girl with the weird name". Oftentimes, having a different or unusual name can be a struggle and somewhat frustrating because you almost always have to repeat yourself (and spell it) !! From the boys, I think Tyrique is the most unique and Rochayah or Tianna for the girls. Other suggestions: See the girls list above, plus Carys, Anara, and ShaeAnne. For boys, maybe also Kian, Caius (the Roman leader, said like KY-us) and Roane (one syllable, like 'Zone'). She now has a fiance and they've talked about it. He agreed as long as the child's middle name was Elizabeth. She mentioned the name to some of her friends and they thought poorly of it because the child would be teased a lot. My friend told them of some of the nicknames the child could be called (Kat, Kate, Ann, Ana) and they stopped bothering her. Of course they always make fun of her name, especially at Christmas.
