My husband's from Afghanistan, so we named my daughter after his country; the original name of his country was Ariana/Aryana. We did this with two purposes in mind: first, to honor the country that he had to leave, since the Russians killed my husband's father and put my husband in jail for not wanting to be a communist, so he had to leave there, even though he missed his home so badly.
