Aaliyah is a beautiful unique name!

this name is awsome i fell in love with it since Aaliyah (african american singer) died. she not only sang beautiful but was too young (22) to die. regardless of the meaning or origin. We are now planning on having our second child in hope that GOD rewards us with a beautiful girl because we have a wonderful smart 4 year old. If we do have a girl we will name her AALIYAH! If we have a boy we will be just as glad but will have to be prepared. - angelica

I love that name. Im pregnant of a girl and I really have it in mind. I dont really care about its origin but as long as it has a positive meaning Im cool with it. Besides I love the late singer Aaliyah, she was talented and beautiful. I'm sure my daughter will look much like her. My husband is nigerian and we want to give her Osariemen as her middle name, it means Gods gift. Aaliyah Osariemen... It sounds good - Yolanda

It is Hawaiian in origin too

There was a Hawaiian princess named alia. The name in Hawaiian means great joy. I once met a Hawaiian boy with the name Alia, so I guess it can be unisex there. Anyway, my name is Aleah and I love it. I always have. And it has only been the last few years that I have heard of anyone else having it. - Aleah

Origin does matter

the name is from the old book which gave rise to Judism and Islamic religion. However, Judism came about in the 10th-7th century BCE and Islamic religion came about in 570AD (CE) with the birth of Muhammad. So it stands to say that the name had a hebrew origin even if the muslims use it too.. - TLC
