Warrior, I changed my name to Ajani too.

Since my teens I wanted to change my name. In my early 20's I really began to feel the tug. By my early thirties I began researching African names. Over time I found a few, but they didnt quite fit. So I began to pray to God in assisting me in finding a suitable name. When I found the name Ajani, and knew of its meaning, it never left my mind. And in being the person that God has blessed me to become, the name is very fitting. I too, recieved some resistance from my family. This fine tuned me in being more sound in my decision. In loving African names, I know that I am more of this, than I was that. Others feared it, some accepted it, many wondered about it; but all respected it. Now I am, I am Ajani.

Warrior, our similar stories really caught my eye. especially since, they were like occurances that I saw after the event of changing my name. - Ajani Azizi

My mother named me Allen 55 years ago About a year ago God renamed me Ajani due to my life experiences. I've given African names to some of my Americanized relatives with much resistance. They are content with their slave names. The only one who seems to understand is my 2 1/2 great, great nephew who I renamed him Ja Ja. Hopefully by the time he becomes an adult we will become Black again and acknowledge the power and beauty in African names. - ajani
