When I was younger I always got teased with "Look! It's A-Man-Duh!" and people always sang the Amanda Show theme song when we passed in the hall or something but now I'm over it and love my name like no other and wouldn't trade it for any other name.

another Amanda

I was only called Amanda when I was born and then once I got in school I went with Mandy. I actually like Mandy better than Amanda. Teachers wanted to sometimes spell it with an i, but I would always have to tell them Mandy with a y. I would also have to go through the first day of school saying that I wanted to be called Mandy instead of Amanda. Amanda is definitely an 80's name since I was born in 80. My best friend going through school was also named Amanda Jo. We were pretty much the only two Amanda Jo's growing up. The only nickname I got called by some cousins that I didn't like was Mampers Pampers. I didn't have to go through the a man duh nicknames since i went with Mandy instead. Now being older and going through jobs I always get the co-workers and stuff singing the O Mandy song to me.

Wow. I used to hate being teased by my name a lot, such as the a-man-duh thing, and i thought it was just me, but after reading this, I realized I'm not only one! I feel much better now, now that we're all in this together! =]
add another one to the list...

I love my name and always have. Born in 84... I fell into the Amanda trend. But I do love it. Not a fan of being called Mandy though. Most everyone calls me Amanda or Mander, kids call me Manda or Mana, usually because they can't pronounce the whole thing!
Amanda Panda?

Hmmm, that's one that I've never been called, I luv my name Amanda. It makes me who I am. Never really got the lame jokes about it but people like to call me Manders. Amanda is a beautiful name and I wouldn't trade it for the world!
Mandy

My name is Amanda Jayne, I was born in 1974 so it wasn't a popular name back then, especially in Australia. I don't think there was even another Amanda in my year at school. Anyway I like my name and wouldn't change it for the world, although all my family and close friends call me Mandy. Growing up I never once got called a-man-duh (thank god).
Yep, Amanda too.

Amanda here. Like several of you, my name is Amanda Marie. To be honest, I hate my name. I live with it because I love and respect my parents, but don't care much for my title. As a child, my mom dreamed of being a mother, and her biggest dream was to have a daughter named Amanda. Thankfully for her, my father had a close relative named Amanda and also liked the name. I am my parent's first child and only daughter, so I got stuck with it. Growing up, there were way too many Amanda's around (80's name boom). I hated (and still hate) the names "Amanda Panda" "Amanda the Salamanda" and "A man, duh". In middle school, I tried to distance myself from the name by spelling it, Amandah, but got made fun of for that too. My middle name is even more uncreative than my first name. I will definitely give my children beautiful, unique names that encourage a sense of self and individuality.

I think this name was more popular in the late 1980's and early 1990's. I don't care for the name and do not care for the nickname of Mandy, either. There are prettier names out there.

Hi my name is amanda also. I think that it is an equally beautiful name and I LOVE the meaning:Lovable. In school sometimes my friends tease me by saying A Man Duh. It doesnt bother me though as I think it is sort of funny. Although the name shoud be agirlda. I also love my middle name:Brooke. Amanda Brooke, it flows well. By the way mothers who are looking for a beautiful name for their daughter with a sweet meaning try amanda. P.S. I also love that there is a show the amanda show who stars amanda bynes because she is an amazing actress!

My sister's name is Amanda and she is 6-months-old. At her baby shower I told my grandfather that I thought the cake was pretty. He replied that they spelt his name wrong. What a guy! Anyways, I decided to say, "They did, though. A man. DUH!" We laughed for so long. Anyways I like her name. Amanda Grace. It's very pretty.

With a Little Twist
written by Amanda, July 19, 2008
hey. ever since i was little i was always in love with celebrities that share my name. though it might sound dum now, but when i was litte i was soooo amazed when i found out Mandy Moore's real name is amanda. all in all, amanda is an awesome name to have. it has a cute meaning and will NOT get confused with any other way of saying it...like briana or brianna.....i think that's stupid. Amanda is simple, yet eloquent.
i have never, and i dont think wil ever, find someone with my midle name connected with my 1st.
Amanda Scott
I love it. it flows and it takes on a meaning that is far more special than all those amanda marie's or amanda nicole's out there. sorry.
peace and love,
amanda scott r.
