Love this name. I heard that it also means rock. This name actually means a lot more than just a name...

I've also heard that in Gaelic Alanna means something like "Dear child."

The name Alan means "handsome," so Alanna also means "beautiful." "Fair" means both "light haired and pale complexioned," and "beautiful." One can be "fair" and have dark hair and eyes.

So, this name works very well for a little girl with long dark wavy hair and hazel eyes as well as blonde/ginger hair.

My mother got this name for me out of a name book that said it meant "bright and beautiful". That was always what I was told it meant, but it seems every website and book has a similar but somewhat varying meaning for it.
I love my name now--it is very unique--but growing up I was often put out when everyone spelled and pronounced it wrong.
