Just becuase you are a girl named Kendall does not mean its root is feminine, it is a masculine name, I am Kendall as well and a man and the trend to name females thusly is a recent one and one done so in error.

My name is Kendall too. I think it is a much better girls name than a boy. I am 13 and about as girlie as they get.

Just because you are a man and it was supposedly a man's name first does not mean it's only right for a man and that a woman with the name is in "error." I think that was very rude to say.

My name is Kendal and I think it's funny how people are reacting to this. I am a married man and more recently people have started to ask me how I feel about the many girls being named Kendall. It doesn't bother me. I'm comfortable with who I am. Thanks for listening. --Kendal (with one L on purpose)

I really love the name KENDALL BRIELLE. This hopefully will be for my little girl. It really sounds beautiful for either a male or female.
right or wrong, Kendal is a masculine name in origin
written by Kendal, October 21, 2009
The name mean very literally "Kent Valley" after the Kent River and the town on its banks in Cumbria, Kendal (yes, one "L"). The origin and meaning of the name Kent is debated. Some say from the Welsh "cant" meaning "white" or "Bright", or from the English coastal county of Kent (opposite end of the island as Kendal and the River Kent) which is named for the Old English for "coast". Still others say the origin is Celtic meaning "High" or "chief" or in modern English, something closer to "king". Given the proximity of the town of Kendal to the Celtic speaking parts of the island I think this is more likely making the meaning "King/Royal River Valley" which is pretty masculine. The name has been used as a masculine name for about a thousand years longer than as a feminine name.

HOWEVER, as a masculine gendered Kendal, I can say honestly say that I think it makes a very beautiful girls name and came close to naming my own daughter Kendal after myself, but opted to avoid the inevitable confusion and go with something else. Who cares what the origin is.
