My daughters name is Rhianna, most people think because of the singer... honestly i didn't even know about her until after i named her. My mom actually suggested Rhiannon, and my fiancee and i decided to shorten it to Rhianna, though we actually call her Anna. It just suits her better, and I figure it is a good nick name, and will be easier for her to manage when she gets older.

Rhiannon is the Welsh Goddess of the Moon and Inspiration, this is why Stevie Nicks wrote a song about her. The name does mean "Divine Queen," but she is more than a queen, she's a Goddess.

If my son had been a girl, this would have been her name, but his name is Iain.

My daughter is called Rhiannon. Some of the earliest evidence of the name being used is in the 'Mabinogion'- A collection of myths and legends of Wales dating back to the 6th Century. They were tales told by mouth prior to that so Rhiannon is certainly a very old Welsh name.Welsh - the oldest surviving language in Europe predates English by centuries.Rhiannon was a magical, mythical woman, a nymph. As a Goddess, she had magical birds and was said to be the most beautiful in the land.It is also a name linked to the strong in character and quick witted. My little girl certainly falls into those categories! For short we call our girl 'Non' - which was also the name of St David's (the patron saint of Wales)mother. Her friends also call her Nonni.
