i think the name aubrey is more commom now for girls. i dont think i have ever heard it used as a boys even though i know it was originally. my daughter's name is aubrey and i get many compliments on the name.

My parents heard the name AUBREY from the song by the old band called BREAD. In the song they talk about a girl named Aubrey. They loved it so that is what they named me. I realize that people use Aubrey for a girl's name, but the meaning and the origins are CLEAR in that this is a BOY'S name! KING of the Elves-- that's pretty clear-- a King is a MAN. There are thousands of lovely girl names, but it's rare to come up with uncommon and nice boy names, so I wish that people would keep a boy's name as a boy's name and find something else.
As a mom to an AIDEN (another very strong, Irish BOY name) it's hard to see it now being used for a girl. It just doesn't make sense

My husband and I named our son, now 1 1/2 yrs old, James Aubrey (ironic, eh?) We enjoy the Master and Commander series by Patrick O'brian. Jack Aubrey is the main character in the books, which is a big reason why we chose Aubrey for our son's middle name. We considered making it his first name, but we decided to go with James since it's a family name. At the time, I had known of one guy named Aubrey, and had never ever heard of a girl with that name. I later found out that it is becoming a common girls name. I hope as my son gets older he isn't embarrassed to have a "girl's" name. Historically it's a boys name, as was Ashley. I prefer both Ashley and Aubrey for boys names.

i'm glad that my mother gave me the name aubrey i'm a guy and i think its very unique because most of the aubrey i know are girls :D I love my name and I thank my mother for knowing that its a name for boys she is also the first one that told me the meaning. when i was young I thought my mother had a mistake when she gave me the name because people are always asking me "why did your mother name you aubrey?". and before I don't know what to say to them, but now i'm proud and thankful that my name is aubrey. :D
