my names leonie and i love it hated as a child cos it was so unusual but grew to love it i was told by a nun that st bridget had a sister named leonie and the nicknames although some are a bit off theres so many lee leo nonie node nodie

L'm from France and I think that Leonie, which is an old name, is starting a comeback, like other old names such as Josephine, Lucie, Adèle, or for boys Gaspard,Oscar, etc. I don't know if you are from England but it may happen the same and soon it will be less unusual, but still enough to be interesting.
My grand-mother who was born in 1903 and is now dead (so I don't remember if I asked her about that when I was a child and I can't anymore)was called LeoniDe (yes, with a D), like her own mum, and I've never heard that name elsewhere, and couldn't find it on the web. Does anyone know where it comes from? Is it still a name given nowadays?
