the actual meaning (me being from ireland) is that tara is a mountian in ireland that was protected because it was seemed that the gods lived there
and no one but the gaurds and kings/queens were alowed there

Hmmm... I think I like the idea of being named after some legendary mountain better then hearing things like " Cragy hillside? And somewhere I remember seeing that a tara was a measurment. I definatley like the mythical mountain meaning better!
