My parents me named after the movie "Gone with the Wind". I do have dark skin and hair; however my eyes are sky blue. Get a lot of comments about them people think i wear contacts. A lot of people call me melody. Also am a night owl.

I totally love my name and i was shocked to see the german origin because i also saw it defined as greek. The german origin makes alot of sense because i was named after my great great grandmother who was born in Germany.
anyway the greek meaning is dark but after the goddess of the night Melantha, i can't remember the whole story but she betrayed zeus or help the opp. side (not zeus's) in the war of troy and because of this zeus got angry and sentenced her to never see the light of day by making her the goddess of the night.
Also it is a name after the Saint Melania (there is a Melania the younger and the elder)

I never liked that my name meant "dark." I remember my Mother telling that she chose to name me Melanie because it had something to do with grace. I did my research and am proud to say that those of us named Melanie can now tell people, in Hebrew Melanie means "God's grace lifts me up." I like this meaning much better.

I absolutly adore my name!!! I always love being the only Melanie around!! I have heard other meanings for Melanie in other languages. One i remember is in Greek and it means "dark beauty". Im not a very dark person (ive got auburn hair and brown eyes) and i love bright colors and being happy! I love having an individual name and plan on giving uncommon names to my kids as well.
