My wife and I named our son this name and though my family thought it was a bad idea I have found that people enjoy saying this name and seem to like it. When he was very little people acted surprised at the name and one lady said "oh, my what a big name for a little boy, you have a lot to live up too". While some people say strange things like "I guess you really want him to be musician" or "you want him to be cook" overall the comments are kind and I guess people mean well by them. I wouldn't change his name and I am very happy with our choice.

In my research of this name I never came across this name meaning: Advancing Wolf, I have seen: Path of the Wolf and Speed of(or speed like) the Wolf. Advancing Wolf just doesn't seem correct but, hey this is a very old name and language changes.

I named my son Wolfgang after my favorite Hey Arnold character. I idolized his sense of negative reinforcement and bullying tactics. Some family members have criticized me for not naming my son a traditional Chinese name like the rest of our family, but I disagree. When you hear the name Kang, you think of something that isn't going to harm me. When you hear Wolfgang, you're like, "Oh snap, this guy means business." He liked the name after he realized he could get away with being a jerk, and that makes everyone happy.

My name is Wolfgang, I was born in West Germany and I am now 57 years old. I have gone through a myriad responses to my name over the years. When I was a child living in Canada (after emigrating from Germany)I was frequently called "kraut," "Nazi," and a variety of other distasteful ethnic slurs. Getting older I had a different reaction to my name which included totally ignorant comments to high praise for a great name. When I was 16 and becoming an American citizen I added a middle name and thought "I can finally be rid of this name." I went by my new middle name for about two weeks and hated being called by a common name that everyone else seemed to have. I went back to "Wolfgang" and haven't regretted it since. It is a strong name; it has panache; most people like it (except southerners that just don't get it); most importantly, people remember your name. If a name defines you as a strong, independent, intelligent, loyal and caring human being, as it does the wo!
lf then it's a great name. By the way, speaking fluent German, Wolfgang means the "way of the wolf" or the "path of the wolf." It has a much deeper meaning that can't be simply translated. It is not about a journey, it is about the values and strengths of the wolf how the wolf lives its life, raises its family, and is strong and independent. It's a great name and I wouldn't change it. It has made me a stronger more confident individual and has presented opportunities in life that I may not otherwise have had.
