You know, i find it funny. I love jean's books, ( i have only read the series 6 times now.)The name ayla is one that i have always wanted to name my daughter. When i hear that name i think of all the things ayla went through in the earth's childrens series. I do not have kids yet but when i do, that is the name i will choose.

I have a daughter named Ayla, she is 18 now, when I named her it was not a very common name, but they seem to be everywhere, and yes I too loved the Clan of the Cave Bear Series of books, Ayla is just like her name as strong as an Oak tree, but growly like a bear, I have heard Ayla has another meaning too ....A Song bird (My Ayla I think NOT)

My daughter's name is also Ayla. I watched the movie Clan of the Cave Bear. I fell in love with that name immediately. I vowed if I ever conceived and gave birth to girl in the near future then I would name her Ayla. Seven years later my beautiful Ayla was born. She is seventeen now and is very strong-minded like the character in the movie.

My daughter's name is also Ayla, from the books as well. I've loved the name since I was in high school and I knew that's what I would name my baby girl! She's now a year old! Only Ayla seemed choppy so I added a "H" making the spelling Aylah. I like the change, and I wish that some of these sites would add the alternate spelling as with so many other names! The H at the end does not change the sound at all.

I had a baby girl recently who I also named Ayla, except I extended the name with a hyphen, so it is now, Ayla-belle. I honestly don't find that name to be very common. I have never met anyone named Ayla and every time someone asks her name and I tell them they always express how beautiful and original the name is. I of course love the books and I think the meaning "oak tree" is quite fitting. Its just icing on the cake. Now when my daughter grows up we can read the Earths Children series together and I can tell her that I chose this name for her because I knew that she would just as strong, beautiful and intelligent as Ayla.

I have also read and watched The clan of the Cave Bear series and fell in love with the name Ayla. If I could have children, that is the name I would have named my daughter. I also found on another site that Ayla also means "moonlight" or "halo" in Turkish.

i'm 20 years old, my name is ayla marie. people always mispronounce it! it's pronounced like kayla without the k, most people say it like eye-lah or uh-lee-ah. it's really annoying, but on the brighter side, i get ALOT of compliments on it.

im 22yrs old my father is apt fan of J.M.Auel and named me after the character knowing i would grow up to be strong willed and minded just like her. Many have told me its "Ai-la" but its not thats how the turkish pronounce it but it is otherwise a long "Aaaay-la" and im proud to have it. :)

I too love the books and i named my 5yr old Ayla. it took me a while to decide if i wanted to hyphenate it to Ayla-leigh but eventually decided against it. its a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. im finding it hard to find a name as good for the daughter i have due in december.

My name is Ayla and I'm 17 years old. My parents read the Clan and the Cave Bears novel in high school while my mother was pregnant for me. SO many people screw up my name leaving it "I-la" "Ai-la" "Kayla" "Layla" "Gayla" but somehow people cannot just drop the first letter and just say Ayla. I complain about my name a lot, primarily because people get it wrong but I actually really like it. I couldn't imagine having a popular name like Emily or Jessica.

I don't think it's that common, clearly it has to be because of all these comments but I've only heard on one Ayla (who I overheard saying her name in the grocery store, I thought she was talking to me)

I LOVE this name...I'm thinking about naming my baby girl this. My name is Alyssa and people mispronounce/misspell it ALL the time... I don't see how though because it's not complicated. Lol I won't let the fact that people may mispronounce it stop me from choosing it!
