Great that you mention that as a nickname. We knew that we wanted to name our son Jacob. It is strong name and, as it turned out, perfect for our son. Because our last name begins with "W" we wanted to be careful what his initials would spell. We went with a middle name that begins with "A", because my husband thought that "JAWS" was a great nickname. Some people think we're crazy for picking his name based on a nickname, but it works for all of us.

Lately I have had this affinity with the name Jacob. My ears would burn and my heart would race whenever I heard that name. Then I did a facebook quiz lately on baby names. The quiz results were astonishing. They said that the name Jacob is suited for one of my boys. Now I'm solid in my belief that my first born boy will be named Jacob. Jacob Isaac. I also love the story of Jacob in the Bible and his love for Rachel.

I love this name, but I hate how common it's becoming. I would still name my son Jacob, but possibly spell it differently. I know two Jacobs, one spells his Jakob and one spells it Jakub.
"middle name"

I, too, loved this name and found it to be common. We used it as a middle name instead. Noah Jacob. both biblical names. And I love to hear my 2yo say to people, " Hi! I am Noah Jacob ------!" Most are surprise that he is so vocal at his age and astounded that he says it so well. It was important to me that he had a strong name and that it would be easier for him to learn how to say and spell. I have long 1st, middle and last so I didn't want my child to have to spell his name repeatedly like i have in my 38 years. My mom says I had no trouble spelling as a child but I sure to tire of spelling all the time!
