I love my name just the way it is. I think that "weary" defines me well and not too many people have the name so I love being named Leah!

Growing up, I was the ONLY Leah in my whole school...maybe even small town. But as I've grown older I see more and more people with that name. I have always liked it because it was different

I think this name has truly followed me or maybe led me through this life, for I feel all of which my name defines.
coincidence?

I am an identical twin. My mom named us Leah and Rachael, with no knowledge of their biblical story. What's fun is that my name spells out backwards into my sister's name "Leah, leahcar- Rachael". People always comment on the beauty of our names, plus we had a blast showing people our trick.

To my understanding Leah was also the wife who was blessed by God to give birth to most of Jacob's many children, and back in biblical days the more children you had to work the land the richer you were. So I beleive Jacob did love his first wife, mother of his children.

I embrace the name Leah, who had an amazing part in creating the twelve tribes of YSRAEL... I can see why she may have been weary, yet strong and often times delicate; it takes a great deal raising six sons...and one daughter (that's the delicate side).
not spelled LEAH

Beautiful story
written by Shar, April 02, 2008
I plan to name my daughter Leah. It supposedly means weary as well but if you read her story in Exodus, it is truly beautiful. You can tell she wasn't particularly beautiful (the story says she has delicate eyes which could mean cross eyed or beautiful eyes) but she was desperate for her husband to appreciate her, so she cried out to God for him to open her womb. She bore Jacob 4 sons I believe. But the beauty of this story lies in the names of the children...she hungered after Jacobs love and attention (we all know she wasn't his choice...I also blame her father...you don't just give up a child to a bad situation) and so as she names her sons, she names them based on how she's feeling...unloved, unappreciated, despised...then her last son, Judah, his name means praise (pronounced Yehuda it means to lift your hands in worship/praise) because at that point in her life she decided she didn't need Jacob's love and attention but she would rely on God and give him praise. Beautiful. You can see that God has rewarded her praise because she becomes more important to Jacob once God has changed his name to Israel (his name has a "negative" meaning as well but thats another story)...in fact, he honors her more than Rachel eventually because when she dies, she is honored and buried with Abraham while Rachel is buried in a regular grave. Leah may have a bad one word meaning, but it really stands for so much more. A faithful, strong woman who endured a lot of pain and rejection & one who loved and trusted God. For those who believe in Jesus, keep in mind he came from the tribe of Judah!!
I love our name!!!

So my grandmother's name is Rachel, and my mother's name is Leah... Therefore, my mother named me Leah Rachel... talk about having an ironic name because of the Bible story. But I LOVE it all the same! I think Leah is the best name EVER!
i just named my daughter leah :)

I just named my daughter Leah and I also have a son Jacob (who was a twin, i miscarried his twin at 16wks) and so if you know anything about the Bible... well my name is Rebecca!!!! so I not only gave birth to my Son Jacob like Rebecca in the bible but also he was a twin like jacob was in the bible and sadly i named my daughter Leah which was Jacob's wife in the bible... okay, so kinda weird right!
well, my husband James helped pick out both our kids names and we didn't realize the coincidence til after we choose them! We just loved the names Leah and Jacob!! and still do :)
Leah and Rachel?
written by Talia, May 27, 2008
I just love the name Leah, but when i thought of it, i didn't think of the Bible story at all! Another thing, I don't care if it means trickery or weary or cow (which is very odd for me. I'm a stickler about meanings.) My daughter Leah is very sly and cunning so 'trickery' matches almost perfectly.
Leah

My name is Leah and i was sitting in my Bible class one day and my teacher told me my name actually meant wild cow, i was really sad and others started to make fun of the meaning until he told me that Leah and Rachel's (from the Bible) father was a farmer and he named his daughters after things that were close to his heart he named them after animals. My Best friend also told me that she did a study on the lineage of Jesus and later on in life jacob preferred leah over Rachel, and even had a special burial for her and not rachel. Leah was a strong woman in the Bible who when her husband was not paying attention to her decided to start paying attention to God rather than him. She earned Jacob's respect and i only hope i can grow to be half the woman she turned out to be.

I love the name Leah, and probably mostly because that is my name.(haha) However I have always loved that there are so many different ways to spell the name... Lea, Liyah, Liya...you could even get real creative and use Leighyah, however I think the simplicity of the name makes it special.

My name!
written by Lya, August 20, 2008
When I was little I didn't really like my name because of its spelling, Lya, because on the first day of school teachers always pronounced it Liar but with a Boston/New York accent so they never pronounced the 'R' but as time went on, I've realized how unique my name is and now I love the spelling! I've never met anyone else with Leah spelled Lya.
