The name Samara is used in the popular Americanized version of the Japanese movie "Ringu" for a wicked child.

Since that is the only encounter I have had with a Samara, I cannot say that it brings back fond memories. However, it does have a beautiful sound to it and would look lovely in a signature. ^_^

I loved this name the moment I found it. I wanted to name my first and only daughter a Hebrew name that had good meaning. I also wanted my daughter to have my initials so it had to start with an "S". The name Samara encompasses all that I was looking for and everytime her name is said, it is like confirmation that God is protecting her.

Very historic and ancient name

I am 24 years old, and hated my name fo the first part of my life, becauase it is so odd, but I love it now. It is the name of the wird kid in The Ring, maybe because Samara is a latin name of a winged seed (think a "heicopter" from an elm or maple tree) and a burning elm was a major part in the movie. But it's also a Russian name and stretches back to ancient times, origin lost in an extinct dialect of a long ago nation. It is also Hebrew/Arabic. I have met a couple people with the same name...it definitely is unique. Also, in regard to the assumption that it is related to the name Samantha...while both are Hebrew names, they are not related or derived from one another...Now, years later, I am proud of a name that encompasses me and makes me an individual.
Hey,thats my name...

My name is Samara. I was born in 1972. So, I have had a chance to really get use to this name.lol. I agree with the "other" Samara's...Everyone says, what a beautiful name Samara is! That is if they are pronouncing correctly. My parents pronounced my name Sa-mare-a (not Sa-marah, like that freaky girl from 'The Ring') When I was a kid, I hated my name. I wished I was a Jenifer or Susan like everyone else. But, now that I am 35yrs old I am glad I have had a unique name. One thing is for sure...people don't forget me..with a name like Samara.

Samara is my daughter's name. i love it, however my sister cant stand it simply because of that little girl in the ring...lol... i had already chosen this name for her when the movie had just come out. my two best friends and i were watching that movie and realized that was the little girl's name before i had my daughter. but it was already picked out, and i love it. i hope she loves it just as much as i do.
