I tend to get a lot of "could you say that again?" It's said like Bren but spelled totally not like that, so I also get a lot of "it's said like 'Bren'? But it's spelled b-r-i-a-n-n-e. Did they misspell it on the roster? Are you sure that's how you say it?" And I get a ton of people who never say my name right. My grandmother gave up long ago and just calls me baby. I can always tell when someone is trying to read my name off....there's that awkward pause before they attempt to butcher it. I've thought about legally changing the spelling to make my life easier but don't want to hurt my mother. Just a word of advice from someone with an unusual name....think long and hard before you name your kid something weird, unusual or spelled differently.

My father chose this name for me years before he met and married my mother. Finally after a handful of brothers, I was born. Lots of people have trouble with it because "Brianna" or "Breanna" are more common, and they want to add an 'a' to the end. But I love the way my name is spelled and wouldn't give up my name for any thing in this world.

My real name is Brianne and I absolutely hated it growing up. NO ONE could get it right. When the teachers would do roll call they would always call me "Brian" and when I would correct them the whole class would laugh and say oh she's a girl! It was so embarrassing as a kid so now I just go by Bree. :)
