Shea, my daughter too!
written by Kerri, February 04, 2008
My 7 year old is also named Shea... we get tons of compliments. She is Shea Leea. Some uneducated people will pronounce it She - a. That is my only complaint. We have never regretted her name.

Just named our new daughter Shea
written by Carolyn Fitz, February 18, 2008
We also had to think for awhile on her middle name which is Gabriel but we also liked Ryan or Michael. (I guess they are all boy names). She has already been called She-a also, but otherwise we love the name. We have a very irish last name, so we wanted something true to her heritage.

Our daughter's name is Shea. Many call her She-a. I think it is more for a girl nowadays. I know that it originated as a boys name. All of our Children are named after something baseball, so Shea Stadium was the only baseball reference that we could come up with that was girly.

My 4 year old is named Shae. They book I found listed SHEA as the boy spelling, SHAE as the girl, and SHAY OR SHEY as other alternatives. Either way I love it for either a boy or a girl.

Our daughter's name is Shea!
written by Marie Kelley, April 15, 2008
It could be either boy or girl's name. (We have an Irish last name) I liked it because you don't hear of many Sheas and I wanted something different. It was one of three names, on a list I picked out, that my husband liked. Then we asked my sons to pick which of the 3 they liked best and it was Shea! I like this spelling best! Her middle names are Marie Elizabeth in memory of my deceased Mother. They are also my first and middle names. We get many compliments. Only 1 person so far has called her She-a. But she is only 2½, so she still has to get through school, yet!! We love it and the spelling!!
The Truth About My Name
written by Shea Neel Anderson, August 03, 2008
The name Shea finds its origin in Gaelic, a language which reflects its history and folklore. Notably, a belief in magical, ethereal creatures -- fairies. Shea is Gaelic for "from the fairy fort." I don't know where the meaning "majestic" comes from. I see it in some baby name books. My guess is one of them got it wrong and it is just being perpetuated. Or perhaps the real meaning threatens our idea of masculinity. Trust me: give your boy a name that every school teacher will mispronounce "She-a" on the first day of each new school year...he will pray that the day never comes when some kid brings that baby name book to school that proves that he really is a fairy. Don't let any of this turn you away from the name Shea for your new boy. The nick-name "She-a" only lasts a few weeks, and every boy gets called "fairy" at some point. Shea is a traditional name for a boy, but if you didn't know that you probably don't live in Ireland. I've had two Sheas named after me. One was a boy, the other a girl. And don't shy away from the traditional spelling. If people don't know how to pronounce it, so what. Shea is unique. People never forget his or her name.
We love the name Shea for our daughter
written by Scott Sistek, July 19, 2009
Officially, her name is "Shealynn" to make sure people know it's female, but we call her "Shea" and that's how it's spelled on anything that's not an official document. We are baseball fans and I was hoping for an Irish name. The Irish part came first, but after we came up with "Shea", the fact it is (was) the Mets' park name made sense for us. We figure if she grows up to not like it, she can always go by "Lynn". It is misspelled 7 ways to Sunday (most common: Shay or Shae) but those that have heard of it and/or are Irish love the name, and we do too. One warning if you go the full Shealynn route, or any other suffix, people will make it two names: "SHEA-LYNN" instead of "SHEAlynn". Drives us nuts. We say "SHEA-LYNN" is a panda in China. SHEAlynn is our daughter :) But we absolutely love the name!!
My Son Shea
written by Kristine, September 29, 2009
I can't tell you how many people assume that my son is a girl when they read his name... that and they mispronouce it as "Shee-ah". I even had to battle with the doctor's office because one of the receptionists actually marked him as female while he was an infant. I kept telling them to change his records to MALE, but it took a few tries before anything was accomplished. Regardless, I LOVE my son's name, and would never change it. I love that it is the original Irish spelling and hasn't been "Americanized". It is a great name!

My name is Shea (actually it's LeShea) Monique. I am female and for the most part I like my name. It's different. In fact I am the only person in my school with this name. It is kind of plain, but it's unique. There's nothing wrong with naming a little girl Shea.
I am Shea, but no one ever spells it correctly....

I think Shea is a great name, I am actually Kimberly Shea, but I've always been called Shea. My only complaint, (well 2 actually) is the mispronouciation and misspelling. It's not SHE-UH. It's Shea, rhymes with day. I seen it Shey, Shay, Shae, but mine is the simplier and more common form Shea. You'd think people who have known me for awhile would get it right, but not necessarily...As a teacher, I am absolutely drawn to the more interesting and unique names anyway. How many more Johns and Marys do we need?
