This name reminds me of my neighbour's truck, no offence but it's still a beautiful name!

I do love the name Sierra, that said - it somewhat bores me. I do prefer it to the alternate spellings, which I think are used to spruce up an already mundane name.

Sierra's real meaning
written by Lara H, June 01, 2008
I've only ever read that Sierra means literally jagged or rough mountain. Thus "Sierra Nevada": literally translates to snowy mountain. I'm not sure why they say it comes from ciaran "dark".
It is a spanish word, not celtic.
I suppose Ciara may come from that, but not Sierra.

The name "Sierra" no matter how it is spelt has become a very popular name. When I was growing up there was myself and one other that spelled hers Ciara. I believe it is a very beautiful name compared to my first name which is "Tommie". I love my name as I was named after my grandfather but Tommie for a girl is a little bit of a stretch.

So, my name is actually Sierra, only my mom decided it should be spelled "Syerrah" instead. I think it's cool, but I never actually knew what it meant. Also, I didn't know it was an Irish name, I always thought it was Spanish or something...Anyway, the meaning doesn't really fit me, since the only thing 'dark' about me is my hair (which is only brown, not black) as I'm otherwise pretty pale, but I still find it really fascinating to know what it means.
