My name is Siobhan,my Irish Grandmother named me after a famous actress Siobhan mckenna. She claimed it is a popular name in Ireland. I was called Shawn by my family as a youngster, until it became a popular boys name. No one can pronounce it, but when I do EVERYONE says it is so beautiful. My sons tell me I don't need a last name, it's so original. Yes I also knew my alphabet at an early age so I could spell it!!!!

My Name

I have always enjoyed my name. I don't mind that people can't say it until I tell them how. I have a unique name and it's great. I have seen how people are pronouncing it on here and thats now how mine is pronounced. The phonetic way I say it is Shu von. Thats how my mom heard it and thats how it was meant to be said, according to her. When she found the name the meaning was the irish way to say Judith (which is my mom's name) but has since changed like 4 times in the 29 years I have been around.

But its a great name however you choose to say it.

Well personally i don't mind my name, its unique... although i have two common middle names, Siobhán Heather Louise
I do get the occasional mishap of people trying to pronounce my name, and it is usually wrong, people assume that you pronounce it as its spelled, believe me, its anything but that!
A lot of people ask why i also put a dash over my 'a'...its because Siobhan is becoming more common now and i like to think as my name as unique. I haven't really understood why my parents called me Siobhán, as I'm Welsh, I do have some ancestors who are irish, but it was nothing to do with the origin of the name.

And personally i think your child would be happy if you named them Siobhan,, I am
Its not 'old-fashioned' I love my name, wouldn't change it for the world!

My mother almost named me Siobhan, which I would loved from the moment I heard the name, but my aunt said some rather tacky things concerning the name, thus I was named Meghann instead. I would like to give this name to my daughter, if I ever have children.
