this name is pronounced "jah-nee" no "ah" as thats the mistake most people make. The i is silent. My name is Giulia (Julia). The Italian alphabet does not contain the letter J. Gianni is equivalent to John. Gianni is not an abbreviation of Giovanni as they are two entirely separate names.
