I am 25 years old and my name is Mia. I hate when people call me Maya, especially when I've corrected them numerous times! When I was growing up the name was not so common, but it has gained a lot of popularity. I love my name and I get lots of compliments. I actually kind of wish that it wasn't so popular, because I took pride in the fact that my name was unique.

Mia and Italy usage and popularity
written by Jessica, May 02, 2008
The name Mia is not very used in Italy. I was born and raised there and only met one Mia (her nickname). Her real name was Melissa. Anyway, Mia is not really a name in Italy. It is a word for mine if you are referring to something fem. When I came here to Florida I realized they use Mia as a name here. I think it's nice. The only Mia I did meet here was also not the person's real name. Her real name was Maria. Too funny that the only Mias I did meet were really not named Mia. Thought I would share.
