My name is Akira, I'm female and I am from an English background, although i know it is japanese and for a boy it means something else to me. I havent always known it is japanese as my mother somehow created my name out of Dame Kiri Tekunawa from New Zealand as she was reading about the famous opera singer while in hospital before my birth. So to me it is different and unique, and something i will always have (and a part of my mother will always be with me).
