Dakota

Everyone i know that is named Dakota, 95% are girls. I think Dakota is a much nicer girl name than boy, also boys who have that name hate it because they think it's too girly.
I luv it!

Dakota is a great name, and also my husband's name. It is originally a boy native american name, but also works for a girl (I of course prefer it as a boy name). With the last name Bighorse, it is really a unique name that he is proud of.

I picked this name over 20 years ago, but waited to use it for my second son, which didn't happen until 10 years ago. During that time, everywhere I turned people were naming their girls Dakota! I was so afraid it had 'gone girl', but went ahead with my plans to use it, just the same. Please do not take it off the list of BOY names!! :D
i love the name

i named my 2 year old daughter dakoda i wasnt sure if it was spelt with a t or d but now i know the normal spelling is with a t but i much prefer it with a d i thought she was the only one with her name spelt that way but noticed another comment just above i still get people selling her name with a t in letters and birthday cards but i think she will love the unique name and spelling when she gets older i hope she likes her name i think it is an absolutely beautiful name for boy or girl.

I called my precious boy Dakoda-Jae. A finer son you could not have.

The spelling is a little different and he is complemented on it all the time.

I love this name! I think it so perfect! it sounds humble. My tribe is the Dakota tribe (Sioux) and my wolf dog's name is Dakota. He was the best dog ever! He was not a pet. He was part of the family.

Well I named my daughter Dakotah Wynnter, I wanted to give her a name with the same initials as her daddy(he passed away when i was 4mo preg) after picking it I wanted it to be different so i added an H at the end, I also think it looks a lil more girly, not sure if anyone has ever spelled it that way! Also later after i picked her name I noticed that it had the same amount of letters as her dads first name(Douglas) so then I counted the amount of letters in her middle name I was one letter off so thats why there are two N's in her middle name cuz i thought it would be neat for her to have the same initials and same amount of letters as her daddy(Douglas William).... anyways I LOVE the name :)
Love It

I absolutelty love the name Dakota! Altough some say it's girly. If you added a h on the end i think it would become girlier. However i'm growing to love the name Dakoda too, boy or girls name. Dakodah-Grace would be nice for a girl
Didnt want it to

I picked this name out as a boy's name about a year ago, planning to use it if i had a son. Dakota James goes well.I love the name for a boy but was wondering if it was too girly, looking on here, i see that most Dakota's/Dakoda's are girls..
Dakota/Dakoda is a nice name for a girl too i guess but i think the strong "Dak" makes it quite a unusual name for a girl but if i have a girl i still might use it. For a boy i think Dakota, for a girl, Dakoda
different

My name's Dakota. I'm a girl. I do think the name is a bit more boyish, for the only Dakota's I've ever met have been boys all younger than me. It's a nice name but recently I've changed it to Dakotah it seems more feminine. My siblings names are Montana (girl), Kansas (boy), and Nevada (girl). Everyone I've met love our names and think it is very different. It's very fun telling others our names.
My middle name !!!
written by Chloe, October 03, 2008
My parents wanted to name me Dakota, but they went for Chloe instead, 'cause they were afraid that the name would be pronounced by people wrong. (I live in Belgium, so in dutch it would sound stupid !!) but if I'd be born in the states I'd be proud to wear it !!
