aliciasabrina Meaning is more important to me, but associations does play a part. You can try blending both.. a good strong meaning, with good association as far as possible
silversky32 everyone has an association for a name, and it does effect how a person perceives the name. It's extremely evident in all the opinions we get when considering a name for our children. We may have a good asociation and therefore the name seems like a wonderful choice, until Great Aunt Betty tells us she hates it beacuse it was the name of Great Uncle Fred's first girlfriend, and then goes on about what a horrible human being she was. This has happened to us with multiple names for the baby we are expecting, and in turn we have shied away from some of them. We settled on Tessa Adeline, which we love, but several family members don't. It's interesting the reaction it gets because people either really like it or they get that weird look on their face and nod, or they just say they hate it. We don't care beacause we like it, they can have their own baby if they want a different name. My aunt actually told me that if we name her that then she'll be fat and ugly like every other Tessa she knows...yep she actually said that. I love name meanings, but I think that associations are how we first judge a name and what sticks with us throughout life.
KitKat The meaning is the most important to me. I don't care much about associations.
sunny_lia what is more important, what a name means or what others associate with it? lets say if its a celebrity name?
