My daughter Darby is `obsessed` with her best friend at Kindergarten`s name! She is called Isobeli - Mie, which is a particularly unusual name! (Pronounced Is -oh -beel - eye Mee-ah)

I don`t know whether to use it, as I would prefer something not so eccentric that goes with my other childrens names.

Personally I would not like to call my kid Isobeli, but it would break my daughters heart if I didn`t use it.

Also, my other daughter Nicky is 10, and loves the name Meghan. It is pronounced like Megan, but I think it's a bit common. What should I do??????

Well I can understand why you wouldn't want to disappoint your kids, but honestly they will probably get stuck on a new name every few weeks. Kids change their favorites all of the time. Plus, you need to think of what your new baby will think of having those names. Personally, I do not like the name Megan or any variant of the name Isobel.

I agree. I wouldn't worry a/b what you're kids want to name their sibling. There was a little girl in my Preschool class and she wanted to name the baby Abby Cadabee or whatever the character's name is. LOL...Couldn't imagine them naming their daughter that.

It's not their choice it's yours, and it's your baby, I'm pretty sure they will get over. Just let them know the over all choice will be yours and your husbands. And if you don't like a name please don't name your child it just to make your daughter happy.

It's important for children to learn boundaries, and deciding on the name of a new sibling is the parent's responsibility. Let your girls know you LOVE their names, but you aren't going to steal the names that they might use for their own children when they are grown up. This doesn't hurt their feelings, but also reinforces the idea that the parents name the child, not the siblings.

What if she wanted to name the baby Moronica McFakenstein? Would you consider that too?
